Recovery in the Park to encourage those recovering from addiction
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Revive Ministries is holding an event to encourage those recovering from addiction. Recovery in the Park will be held Tuesday at Chautauqua Park, starting at 5:30 p.m.
The event is open to everybody, but the organizers encourage people who have been successful in their recoveries from addiction to attend.
“I’m asking you to first of all pray for this event as every year we visit with someone who is struggling with addiction,” said Dan Rutt, Director of Revive Ministries. “We have been able to guide them to the services they need to get their life back on track. This event is huge for this reason and we have a very generous community supporting our mission.”
This is the 12th year this event will be held. Organizers said there will be free food and conversation. There will also be a spot for the kids.
“Whether it’s maybe you that has the addiction problem or somebody you know, and one thing that’s really difficult to do is if you have young kinds and you come to something like this and you want to try to have some of those conversations,” said William Tryon of Forge Christian Church. “That can be really awkward that can be tough, you know? ‘What do I do? How do I say this in front of my kids?’ so we get an opportunity to just provide a place.”
The church will be providing a safe and fenced area to take the kids while adults can speak about tough subjects like their recovery or addictions. The area will have bouncy houses, popsicles, playgrounds and more.
Additionally, Tryon teaches the Christian 12 Steps at the Horizon Recovery and Counseling Center every Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at the Horizon Recovery and Counseling Center. This program is free.
