WISNER, Neb. (KSNB) - For back-to-back state champion DCB, playing in the loser’s bracket of the Class C State Tournament isn’t where they’re used to being, but they found themselves in a win or go home scenario Monday night against SOS.

Carter Noakes played like it was his last time on the diamond, recording a stand-up double on a night where he ended with a perfect on-base percentage. Shortly after, it was Bryce Gorecki driving in Nolan Hurt for the game’s first run to give DCB the 1-0 lead.

Hurt also flashed the leather in the outfield, as he made a diving catch on a well-hit ball from SOS’s Wyatt Urban.

The Rebels didn’t bow down, though, as a shot to right field brought home Shayden Lundstrom late in the game to give SOS a 2-1 lead. However, that’s where DCB took control.

Barrett Fries knocked in the go-ahead RBI to give DCB a 3-2 lead and they didn’t look back after that in the 5-2 win.

“We just knew we needed to do everything to win,” Fries told Local4 after the game. “It felt great. I knew that we had a good chance of winning. I knew that we were going to advance after that, just help out the team. Hoping that we can win this state tournament.”
