HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Some showers and thunderstorms linger this morning in southeastern parts of the Local4 viewing area along a surface trough that is advancing southeastward. Severe storms are unlikely, but frequent lightning, heavy rain, and some small hail are possible. Those will continue to advance southeastward. Meanwhile, behind the surface trough, winds are turning more northwesterly. They’ll eventually turn more north and northeasterly later today and may get a bit breezy at 10 to 15 mph. This will bring in some drier air as the dew points drop. Skies will be clearing up through the day and skies will become fairly sunny later on. It’ll still be quite warm, although not as hot with highs later this afternoon in the low to mid 90s. Skies will be mostly clear tonight as some much cooler air moves in. It should be quite pleasant by early Thursday morning with lows in the low to mid 60s.

Skies will be fairly sunny on Thursday as temperatures heat back up. We’ll see highs back into the low to mid 90s again. Some upper 90s will be possible out west. Look for lows Thursday night in the mid to upper 60s and lower 70s. There’s a slight chance of a Thursday evening thunderstorm in far North Central Nebraska. Friday will be fairly sunny again with more heat building in. High temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 90s and lower 100s with the hottest temperatures in the west again. Later in the day and into Friday night, some thunderstorms will be possible in Northern Nebraska as a cold front begins to approach from the northwest.

Most of us will still have a very hot day on Saturday ahead of the approaching cold front. Temperatures will climb back into the 90s with some lower 100s in the south and east. Off to the far northwest, cooler 80s will be moving in. A slight chance of thunderstorms will start to move in with the cold front with that chance increasing Saturday night. Some of those could linger into Sunday and possible Sunday night. Much cooler air will move in on Sunday with highs mostly in the 80s.

Some showers and thunderstorms may linger Sunday night and possibly Monday...but mainly in the south. The rest of the area will start to see more sunshine. High temperatures on Monday will be back into the mid to upper 80s. It’ll get a bit warmer on Tuesday with highs into the upper 80s and lower 90s with plenty of sunshine. Much of the rest of the week will feature highs a bit above average in the upper 80s and low to mid 90s. Moisture will likely be very hard to come by most of next week.
