WISNER, Neb. (KSNB) - To win back-to-back-to-back state championships, the DCB legion baseball team needed to win back-to-back games Wednesday, but Malcolm didn’t even let them reach a second game.

Malcolm found success early against DCB pitcher Kolby Gorecki as Jacob Clark found a gap between first and second to drive in two runs in the top of the 1st inning in what would be a four-run inning for Malcolm. However, DCB was quick to respond. Kellen Fries sent a bloop shot to shallow left-center which brought in two of DCB’s three runs in the bottom half of the first inning.

That was the end of the good news for DCB, though, as Malcolm scored 7 unanswered runs including a 3-RBI triple off the bat of Clark in the later innings. Malcolm rolled from there to an 11-3 win over DCB, ending their hopes of a 3-peat.

“This team is great,” DCB Coach Joe Noakes said about his team. “They have been since they started at 14 in this program. What we did to — the record we had and the teams that we beat to get this far — I mean, I couldn’t ask for any more out of the kids. Got a great crowd and I’d like to thank all them. And the parents, I thank them every year for letting me coach their kid and be around them.”
