GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The Grand Island Public School Foundation honored their teachers of the year on Wednesday morning.

The awards came during GIPS’s Welcome Back Event. Teachers from elementary, middle, and high school were all honored for their efforts in the last year.

There were also administrators and a para-educator who took home awards. Jessica Schroeder is a counselor at Stolley park elementary school who was also honored during the event, she told Local4 News developing connections are important.

“I think relationships are so important building them with students, teachers, staff, and just really being in it together and letting everyone know what they do matters,” Schroeder said. “With all of the challenges we face now in education, we can’t do it alone, we have to do it together.”

Andrew Schneider won middle school teacher of the year, and he said he’s humbled and ready to face another year of teaching instrumental music.

“Very encouraging, very humbling, I am very excited for the year. Just really happy, really humbled,” Schneider said. “I try to do my job everyday, and I love what I do so it makes it easy to do it well I suppose you could say.”

All the awards presented were in partnership with First National Bank.
