GISH football transitioning to new QB after Class A State Quarterfinal finish
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Kytan Fyfe led Grand Island Senior High football to a 7-4 finish with a berth in the Class A State Quarterfinal game last season. Now, the Islanders quarterback is on to South Dakota State, leaving the team left to fill the void.
The expectation is to graduate talented athletes every year and GISH coach Jeff Tomlin is not worried about what is in the Islanders’ cupboards.
“Kytan, obviously, great athlete, and we’ll always miss great athletes, but they’re going to graduate at some point, so you have to look forward to what you have coming,” Tomlin said. “You develop your talent and you develop your experience.”
GISH is in a two-man quarterback battle as Week 1 looms.
“We feel good about Cohen Evans and Alberts going into the season,” Tomlin said. “They’re two very capable young men. Both good athletes and both really smart, good leaders.”
The Islanders open the new season on the road against North Platte on Aug. 26.
