Husker fans gearing up for Ireland trip
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - With the Husker football season right around the corner, and their first game taking place in Ireland, fans have been gearing up to travel across the pond to cheer on their team.
Longtime Husker fan Chad Miller and his wife JoAnne created a Facebook group called “Huskers in Ireland,” to bring together fans and share recommendations for food and drinks, tourist activities, as well as share in the bond that is being a fan of the Big Red.
“Nebraska fans are amazing,” said Miller. “I’ve lived in Arizona, I’ve lived in Utah, and I’ve always been a part of those state Nebraska groups and their fantastic fans. I thought, ‘What a chance to meet some fans who might be going over to Dublin to watch a football game’, which just sounds crazy. What an opportunity, it’s been fun, and through the Facebook page we’ve been able to meet a lot of people, pull a lot of people from all over the country and the world together. It’s been quite an experience.”
The group started out small, but has grown exponentially as kickoff looms nearer and nearer. There’s not just Husker fans from the U.S in the group either. International fans, like one Irish family taking their son to his first football game, are chiming in wanting to learn more about Nebraska football.
“They were asking about the Nebraska chants, like what chants do they need to know,” explained Miller. “A couple of our members filmed videos of some of the chants so some of these international folks coming from all over the world would kind of have an idea of what to expect, and how they can get involved and included.”
The Huskers will take on Northwestern on August 27th at 11:30 am, at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland.
