More charges against Kearney child rape suspect

KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - Prosecutors filed more charges against a Kearney man already suspected of sexual assault on a child.

Curtis Steier, 71, is already headed to trial court accused of raping a 15-year-old girl on August 8. Wednesday, prosecutors filed two more counts of first degree sexual assault on a child as well as one count of possession of child pornography against Steier.

The details of the offenses related to the new charges were sealed by the court. But the information related to the charges indicates that the sexual assaults were apparently against the same victim occurring in June and July. Charges indicate that Steier was also found with child pornography in July and August.

Steier was already charged with sexual assault on a child for the reported offense on August 8. That case was transferred to Buffalo County District Court where his next hearing date is pending.

The max penalty for a conviction of sexual assault on a child is life in prison.
