New info released in officer-involved shooting near Hastings Police station

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - UPDATE 6:05 P.M.

The Hastings Police Department said multiple officers were involved in this incident, two of which fired their weapons, but no injuries were reported.

The Nebraska State Patrol did take one involved suspect into custody, but it was on unrelated felony warrants, according to HPD.

An internal review of the Hastings officer’s actions will be conducted by the department, while SCALES continues to handle the criminal investigation on the totality of the incident.

HPD Patrol Officer Mark Hinrichs told Local4 News this is only the third officer-involved shooting that’s happened in the 34 years he’s been working with the department.

Authorities say there is no current threat to the public. Further information with regard to the criminal investigation will be released by the Adams County Attorney‘s Office.

An investigation is underway by multiple agencies following a shooting Tuesday in Hastings.

Hastings Police Captain Mike Doremus said the call came in at 12:41 p.m. in the 300 block of South Lincoln Avenue for an officer-involved shooting near the Hastings Police station.

An area is blocked off on B Street from Burlington to Hastings and on Lincoln from A to B Streets.

Nobody was injured but Hastings Fire & Rescue responded as a precautionary measure.

The South Central Area Law Enforcement Services (SCALES) has been asked to investigate the incident. The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Department, Kearney Police Department, Grand Island Police Department, and the Nebraska State Patrol will be conducting the investigation on behalf of SCALES. The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Department has been designated as the lead investigating agency.

There are no safety concerns for the public at this time.

The public is encouraged to avoid the area.
