In The Kitchen With Joe: ‘The Danish Bakery’
DANNEBROG, Neb. (KSNB) - When Justin and Keslie Wilson took over as owners for ‘The Danish Bakery’ in 2020, they were in for something new.
“We had a lot of people forgiving us for mistakes we made, and for not doing things the way they expected,” said Justin. “The community really gathered around behind us, and seeing them all come behind us was encouraging and helped us get through the first year.”
With pastries, bread, and pizza galore, the bakery is a hot spot for not only locals, but folks from all across the state.
“We serve hot meals, homemade lunches, those are always delicious,” said Kelsie. “Emily, our other partner, she does all the meals and she does a great job with that. It’s definitely you’re own kind of home kitchen. Everything’s made here and we take pride in that.”
Emily is Kelsie’s sister, who is also a co-owner of the bakery. With her help, the Wilsons strive to bring the deliciousness that is their food to the surrounding communities.
“We’re really always open to trying new things, so we do a lot of different things and we’ve dabbled in just about everything,” explained Justin. “We’ve had a food truck, we go to farmer’s markets, we make a lot of things here at the bakery but we’ve been trying to get those things out farther than just Dannebrog. Out into other counties and really get the word out about our sourdough and other baked goods that we make.”
One of the best things about the bakery, is their pizza night on Thursdays. From 4:30 - 9 pm, the Wilsons and their helpers whip up tons of pizzas for folks who flock from all over to snag one.
“The quality of the food that you’re gonna get here is phenomenal. You’re not gonna find this type of bread anywhere else in Nebraska. We haven’t found it. If you’re looking for hearty, delicious food, we serve something unique. So I think that you’re gonna get something that’s baked and made with lots of love”
