Hastings YMCA Youth Basketball League begins this weekend
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Hastings YMCA’s Youth Basketball Hoops League begins this Saturday, bringing teams from all across the area to Hastings.
Teams from 3rd grade through 8th grade have signed up for the four-week league, that sees each team play 2 games a weekend.
Preparations for this league take a lot of volunteers, which YMCA Sports Director Ty LeBar says is something he’s grateful for.
“All the people behind the scenes that help set up the gyms, the janitors, administrators that help get things started,” said LeBar. “We couldn’t do it without partnerships in the community and then also their help in getting things ready to go for us.”
With 136 teams, there’ll be over 500 games of basketball played in the league, meaning the Y will need 30 refs each weekend to help the games be put on.
Games will be played at the YMCA, Hastings middle and senior high, Adams Central elementary and high school, and Hastings College.
