GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - After running unopposed for the Grand Island mayoral seat in 2018, Roger Steele has now won his first contested election for the seat.

The incumbent held off challenger Doug Brown Tuesday night in a narrow victory. As of the writing of this story, Steele secured nearly 500 more votes than Brown, earning him 52% of the vote.

Brown earned a spot in Tuesday night’s midterm election after edging out Julie Wright in the May primary election. Back then, Steele held a solid majority of the vote, and it’s a gap Brown certainly closed by election day.

Steele, who will be entering his second term, says he has plenty of objectives to achieve in the next four years.
