Kearney High features three athletes sign NLIs
KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - Wednesday marked the official start of Fall National Signing Day for high school athletes across the nation.
Kearney High had three athletes sign a National Letter of Intent: Haidyn Skeen, Norh Dakota track and field; Elli Mehlin, UNK volleyball; and Lucas Wegner, Pittsburg State baseball.
Each put pen to paper to signify the beginning of their college careers.
“I think it’s really satisfying knowing all my hard work really paid off and signing that just solidified it,” Skeen said. “The track program is really good, the facilities are really nice and it really benefits my major I want to go in. It’s one big check off the list, but there’s many more to come.”
“It was very surreal,” Mehlin said. “A few years ago, I would have never expected to be right here, so it just felt great. It’s crazy just to play at such a big level and such with amazing competition. It’s crazy, I’m blessed and I’m super excited for the next chapter.”
“It feels like I was just a freshman getting ready to play legion baseball and it’s weird to be in the moment, but it feels good,” Wegner said. “The MIAA, it’s a tough baseball conference for sure with all the JUCOs that come in around there. It’s a great place to play ball. Kearney is a great place and I’m excited to have a Bearcat in the MIAA.”
