GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in downtown Grand Island, as the Christmas tree that will be decorated and lit up for the holiday season was placed in Railside Plaza today.

This year’s tree was donated by Kirk and Tanya Hansen, from Kirk’s late father’s front yard.

“Christmas trees are very magical. Kirk’s dad Jack loved Christmas,” said Tanya. “This was really a great way for us to honor him, to donate the tree to the downtown Christmas.”

While Kirk is sad to see the tree removed from the front yard, he and his wife are excited for the folks of Grand Island and surrounding communities to enjoy the tree.

“It’s been part of my life to see all these trees in the yard, but it’ll be nice once we get this all taken care of as well,” explained Kirk.

”It could stand here in the yard and we can look at it, or it can go downtown and make a lot of people happy,” Tanya added on.

The tree will be decorated and ready for the lighting ceremony on Nov. 18.
