Festoon festivities ring in ‘Railside Christmas’ for its 30th year
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The downtown area of Grand Island was illuminated by Railside Christmas on Friday night.
The Railside Business Improvement District flipped the switch on the new Festoon Lighting alongside their traditional Christmas Tree. That lighting was just a taste of what the night held for folks as they enjoyed the cold night in Railside.
All the businesses were decked out in their Christmas best, on top of providing activities for kids ages one to 92. Railside Christmas also works to advertise for the small businesses in downtown Grand Island.
Executive Director of The Railside Business Improvement District, Sherry Siwinski, said there’s just something special about shopping small.
“Well it’s great to come down to your small local businesses and support them,” Siwinski said. “Hey they have got it right there on their shelf, you don’t have to wait for it to be shipped, and you can touch it feel it, and decide if it’s the right product for you. The businesses have so much to offer, we have so many new things that people can come and explore and find those great little stocking stuffers.”
The festoon lighting has been in the works for a few weeks before finally turning on during the event. Siwinski told Local4 News one city department is especially to thank for getting them installed.
“We’re really excited tonight, the Grand Island City Utility Department has been absolutely fantastic,” Siwinski said. “They’ve gone above and beyond to get all of these lights in place for tonight so kudos to them.”
The Festoon Lights are set to grace the skyline of Grand Island throughout the year, not just during the holidays.
