LINCOLN, Neb. (KSNB) - In a battle of the unbeatens, Hitchcock County outpaced Howells-Dodge 22-12 for the Class D2 State Football Championship.

It was the Falcons who struck first, as Keynan Gatson found the endzone on a quarterback sneak. A two-point conversion set up Hitchcock County with an early 8-0 lead. Howells-Dodge would then take its own lead at 12-8 before the Falcons struck again.

Gatson went top shelf to connect with Trent Kisker for a 45-yard touchdown. The bomb put the Falcons up 16-12 and they didn’t look back. Drew Scott tacked on a touchdown of his own at the end and Howells-Dodge never found the endzone again.

The win is the first-ever football title in Hitchcock County history.
