‘Bargain Barn’ enjoys Black Friday success in first year
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - A new Grand Island store hopes to help Nebraskans who are looking for a deal for this holiday. The Bargain Barn is a new retail store that sells overstock items.
They’ve been open a little more than four months and are open from Friday-Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. They can be found in the old Cabela’s call center. The owners say they started the business as something to do for fun.
“During COVID me and my partner were super super bored,” said Bargain Barn owner Shayla Trentman. “I wasn’t working at the time, so we just (did) a bunch of research on different things that we can do for fun, and this was one of them that we kind of came across. We were doing a lot of house cleaning and trying to sell on the buy, sell sites some of our stuff that we just didn’t use anymore.”
Trentman said it feels good that she’s able to sell residents major retailer merchandise at a lower price. Initially she wasn’t sure how it would be received by the community.
“I honestly didn’t know how people would take it at first because it kind of is something that is really super different,” said Trentman. “But everyone loves a really good deal, and we don’t have a market in this town for a place that you can brand new items for this cheap.”
Bargain Barn has only been in its current location for a week, but it’s an upgrade from the small office space they started out in. Their mission is to bring as many deals as possible to the area, and residents have responded quite well to the new business.
“They love it,” said Trentman. “I haven’t heard any bad things about it. We’re really good about making the deals with people so on the higher-price item stuff that we mark down it’s 40%-60% off retail price.”
Trentman said they also have deals on other occasions as well and have box deals for professions such as teaching.
