In the Kitchen with Joe: ‘The Crafty Dog Sports Bar’
KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - Travis Evans and his wife have been chefs for over 20 years. In 2020, they decided it was time to throw their hat in the sports bar ring.
“We just wanted to bring a more family sports bar atmosphere to Kearney, with really good food,” explained Evans. “We love what we do. We love coming in here, feeding and giving guests that come in here an experience that they may not get somewhere else.”
Serving up traditional bar food like sandwiches, the Evans put their own unique spin on the menu. Their staple is mac and cheese.
“It’s something that’s different that nobody is bringing around the area, so we thought it was unique and we both love pasta and mac and cheese,” said Evans.
Opening in the heart of the pandemic, the community has rallied around ‘The Crafty Dog’ to help it become a success.
“It’s been an amazing support from [the community]. It’s been almost 2 and a half years now and it’s going strong,” Evans said. “We love the community support, we love being involved in the community, so it’s been really good.”
As a way to give back, the bar participates in the “Alumninum Can Program”, which sees the cans sold at the restaurant recycled for money, that’s given back to good causes.
“We recycle all the cans and we try to help out with youth sports or the rescue units in town for animals. It makes us feel good that we can give back to the community in a small way,” Evans explained.
