GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - January is Radon Action Month, and the Central District Health Department is offering free short-term radon testing kits for people to use in their homes.

Radon is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, so health officials are encouraging people to use the kits.

“The short term ones, especially during the winter, are pretty accurate,” said McKenzie Hatch, an environmental health specialist. “Your house is enclosed at that point, you’re not opening windows, you’re keeping everything as warm as possible.”

You can pick up one of these kits at CDHD’s office in Grand Island, and they’ll be available for all as long as supplies last.
