Hastings Parks and Rec hosts city-wide garage sale
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - With chilly temperature, some people may not want to stand outside for a bargain. Hastings Parks and Rec put together a garage sale at the city’s auditorium. Clothes, jewelry, sporting goods and more were sold at the garage sale.
This was the sixth year Hastings Parks and Rec hosted the event. Residents were able to rent a table and sell all the good they no longer use.
“I think it’s nice for the community to do something in a group setting,” said Gianna Konen, vendor. “It gets people out of their houses during this time of year, and help everybody get rid of some of their clutter.”
This was Gianna’s first year participating in the city wide garage sale. She ran a table with her parents, and said with the nation’s economy, it’s nice to be able to make some extra cash.
The popularity of the event surprised her.
“I was surprised by how many vendors there are and by the crowd that it drew in,” Gianna said. “It’s been a really good turnout and I think things have turned out well.”
Gianna was selling a lot of baby clothes as her twins grew to eight months old and have grown out of their clothes. She can also see herself participating in future city wide garage sales. With inflation effecting retail prices attendees enjoyed getting high quality items for a low price.
“I think it helps a lot, because some people want certain items but they really can’t afford it at the store,” said Donna Fowler. “This is a good way for somebody that doesn’t need it anymore to get rid of it, and for somebody that wants it but doesn’t want to pay that full price for it. The prices here are fabulous.”
Donna said the most money she spent on a single item was a diamond ring for $35, and with all the convenient prices she decided to treat herself. She also has attended all of the past city wide garage sales, and says the event has grown each year.
