Osceola boys basketball’s Zelasney zips to All-Time scoring leader
OSCEOLA, Neb. (KSNB) - Records are meant to be broken, some just take longer than others. Osceola’s Isaiah Zelasney shattered a 56-year old record for all-time scoring during the Bulldogs matchup against Nebraska Christian. One person in particular made it all the more special....his coach and cousin Jason Zelasney.
“It was a great feeling, with him there, as my coach, related, my cousin, I mean it was just great to have him there. I mean he got me there, he is the reason for all of our success, and it was a great accomplishment”, said Isaiah.
“We are extremely close on and off the court because of it and it helps me get the vibe of the team because he is willing to talk to me more of a family member, not as a player/coach situation so it’s unique and its been really good for us”, said Jason Zelasney. “I am extremely happy for him, I mean fifty-six years is a long time”, continued Zelasney.
So the question really wasn’t if Zelasney would break the record against the Eagles, rather when he would do it. After all, the senior guard was averaging just about 22 points per game.
“Yeah we knew he was going to get it, you know he is never going to go for less than ten points so you know he was going to get it there and we were all happy for him and it was a great moment”, said Kale Gustafson. “We have always had chemistry whether it was on or off the court and we usually know where each other are going to be, it is so deserving, he works so hard all the time, and you know you feel great for him because finally all his hard work is finally paying off”, continued Gustafson.
As for the seniors next goal in mind, he has eyes on some championship hardware.
“State championship that is all”, said Zelasney.
