Not as cold Thursday, snow shower or flurries still possible..
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - A series of disturbances dropping south into Nebraska will keep chances for snow showers or flurries in the forecast late night into Thursday. The favored areas for snow showers tonight appears to be in western areas along and west of a Broken Bow to Holdrege line. Temperatures will remain steadily in the teens, with lower teens anticipated for morning lows on Thursday.
Some morning flurries area possible but a another disturbance riding into the area Thursday afternoon and evening could result in a band of snow showers or flurries running through the Tri-Cities area. It will not be as cold on Thursday with west winds elevating temperatures into the lower 30s.
An arctic front will move toward the Cornhusker state Friday night, ushering in some bitterly cold air that will grip the area by Sunday. Snow will develop over Northern Nebraska with a tight gradient of accumulating snow from central Nebraska northward. The Ord and Greeley areas could see some light accumulations with the potential for isolated heavier amounts of snow focus mainly in the far northeast half of the state.
What is less certain regarding the latest model runs, is how far south the the snow will reach on Saturday, if at all. And the timing with recent runs suggest that for the Tri-Cities region the snow may wait until Sunday. In any event, accumulations still are expected to be light but specifics regarding the weekend precipitation remain in question with the changes reflected today.
Cold air will settle into the region with highs Sunday and Monday in the single digits then teens Tuesday and Wednesday. Morning lows next week will stay below zero.
