Huskers open preseason with outdoor practice

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Snow was on the turf at Den Hartog Field on Friday afternoon. So was the Nebraska baseball team. The Huskers held their season-opening practice outdoors on a 40-degree day in east Lincoln. With the warmer temperatures, fourth-year head coach Will Bolt said his team planned to scrimmage after some drills early in the workout. Players said they were excited to be outside instead of practicing inside the Alex Gordon Training Complex.

The Huskers have a revamped roster in 2023. Bolt’s team welcomed a nationally-ranked group of transfers, along with an impressive freshman class. In total, the Huskers have 25 new players. Despite the turnover, Bolt said his team has solid chemistry, which was developed during the fall season.

Nebraska is coming off a 23-30 record, in which the Huskers failed to qualify for the Big Ten Tournament.

With a cold front expected this weekend, the Huskers aren’t sure when their next outdoor practice may be. One coached joked it may not be until the season opener on February 17th that the Huskers get back outside.

Nebraska begins its challenging scheduled with a four-game series at San Diego.
