CRETE, Neb. (KSNB) - For the first time since 2018, the Crete boys basketball team is heading to state.

The Cardinals knocked off Waverly 60-41 Tuesday night in the Class B-5 District Championship to earn the short trip to Lincoln. Crete was powered by Jabin Gardiner and Trace Egge in the win as they both hit clutch second-half three-pointers.

Aidan McDowell scored a game-high 19 points in the Cardinals win. He said it’s been a big turnaround in Crete to get the team to this point.

“It feels great,” McDowell said. “I mean we go from an 8-18 season two years ago to heading to Pinnacle right now, and we just worked so hard as a group to make it happen. This is a good feeling. I don’t know how else to explain it.”
