LINCOLN, Neb. (KSNB) - The quarterfinal round of the NSAA Class B state boys basketball tournament began in Lincoln Thursday. No. 5 Crete took on No. 4 Elkhorn.

The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead and sustained it all the way to the end to win its first game at the state tournament in 16 years. Crete beat the Antlers 66-61.

“I think this was probably one of our best defensive showings all season,” said Jabin Gardiner, who scored 10 points for Crete. “It was really good, everyone was moving, was getting a lot of tips, a lot of runouts. It was great defense.”

“We got back to just being us, and that’s been our message all year,” Cardinals coach Tony Siske added. “We don’t have to do anything special, we just have to be us.”
