Shelton boys basketball survives Santee scare, advances to Class D2 semifinals

LINCOLN, Neb. (KSNB) - The quarterfinal round of the NSAA Class D2 state boys basketball tournament began in Lincoln Thursday. No. 2 Shelton took on No. 7 Santee.

The Bulldogs took a 13-point lead into halftime, but the Warriors clamored back into the game courtesy of a third quarter where they outscored Shelton 22-5. Late in the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs trailed 68-67 with around seven seconds left. Santee was called for a dead ball foul, resulting in a technical foul that sent Ashton Simmons to the free throw line.

He made both attempts to put Shelton back up for good, as the Bulldogs escaped with a 72-68 win.
