LINCOLN, Neb. (KSNB) - The semifinal round of the NSAA Class C2 state boys basketball tournament began in Lincoln Friday. No. 2 Amherst took on No. 6 Tri County at the Devaney Sports Center.

The Broncos went on a 13-0 scoring run to start the game and held the Trojans scoreless until just over three minutes remained in the half. Amherst sustained that lead to the end before winning 36-19.

“We did not expect to hold them to zero points,” said Amherst’s Tayje Hadwiger, who scored a game-high 17 points. “We knew that it was going to be a low-scoring game, that’s what they do, but having them at zero points — that really gave us momentum and it never really got close after that. I always felt like, when we were growing up, that this was probably the year that we could get it done and start of the season was good. We’ve just pushed through and we’re making it happen.”

It is the first state championship game the Broncos will play in, regardless of class, since finishing as Class D state runner-up in 1987.
