HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Buying sporting goods could recalculate your budget but a local non-profit is making it a little easier to obtain. Revive Sports Thrift Store is having its St. Patty’s Lucky Days half-price sale from now through Sunday.

The store has a variety of sporting goods to choose from. Officials opened the store several years ago, because they wanted all children to be able to try a sport.

“We have baseball bats, softball bats, helmets, gloves, all those type of things for a couple of bucks you know and that way family doesn’t have to invest a lot of money to have their child try a sport out and then maybe not like it after a year or two,” Dan Rutt, Director of Revive Ministries said.

Rutt said the mission of the Revive Sports Thrift Store is to help kids stay active and find a sport that fits their personality. It all started when a group of men found their passion on the greens.

“We have about six or eight young men that borrowed some golf equipment about four or five years ago and they fell in love with golf and they still play golf together,” Rutt said. “So that was the focus of it and it was worth while.”

Rutt hopes a few dollars can bring the same feeling to more children in need.

“They’re $1 a piece or $2 a piece, I think you can get a golf set for between $25 and $75,” said Rutt. “Everything’s negotiable in here. Dennis has a landline directly to me, so if somebody wants to comes and wants to dicker a little bit he’ll call me and we’ll try to work with them.”

Rutt said they always try to make everything affordable, and last year they even ran out of some items.

“I think last year we ran out of baseballs and softballs,” Rutt said. “We only charge I think 50 cents a piece for them. So they’re very inexpensive but yeah they out the door pretty quickly.”

Rutt said sometimes artist would come in and by sporting goods for their project. Adding, the goal is to impact a kid and get them to try a sport that they might not have tried if they didn’t come to Revive Sports Thrift Store.
