YMCA host 11th annual Shamrock Shuffle
KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - The Kearney Family YMCA hosted its annual Shamrock Shuffle, with the proceeds from the event going towards Compass and CASA Saturday morning.
The annual Shamrock Shuffle involved multiple races with the proceeds from the event going towards Compass and CASA. A full grant of $7,500 was awarded to help each organization complete task for their volunteers and people that serve in the organization.
“Just because of all the work they do in the community helping kids in need, and one of our committee members actually has adopted a child that they fostered through Compass,” Laura Aden of Kearney Family YMCA said. “So we got to life through that family’s experience and it was so amazing.”
Aden said the funds also help with other services those organizations need. Adding, the Shamrock Shuffle gets people active, engaged, and brings the community together. Although, sometimes mother nature can change things.
“For CASA it helps them train their volunteers that can be those judicial advocates,” Aden said. “For Compass, for example, some of the funds will go to helping their foster families get a night out right, and to just get a break that day.”
“In the past we’ve always had a really good turnout,” Aden said. “Everyone loves the Irish theme and they always come dressed in costume and ready to go. This year had quite a few people not show up even though they registered, but that’s to be expected. It’s 14 degrees out right now so it’s cold.”
Aden said cold temperatures definitely played a factor when it came to the number of participants this year.
