Omaha man pleads not guilty to Kearney robberies
KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - An Omaha man said he’s not guilty of three Kearney robberies charged against him.
Court records show 19-year-old Tobechukwu “Tobey” Okafor is charged with three counts of felony robbery. He pleaded not guilty to the charges last week in Buffalo County District Court. His next hearing is April 21.
Two UNK students claim Okafor robbed them on campus in the early morning hours of Oct. 29. They reported a wallet containing a debit card and other personal items were stolen. A third UNK student accused Okafor of stealing her cell phone on Oct. 30.
Okafor is a former UNK student and had previously been sentenced to jail and probation for assault and trespassing convictions connected to an off-campus fight in December 2021.
A conviction on felony robbery carries a maximum sentence of 50 years in prison.
