Shooting in Grand Island injures one

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The Grand Island Police department reports that a man was shot around 1:35 Sunday morning, in the area of the 1000 block of South Greenwich St.

Authorities say 21 year old Juan Alvarez Jr. fired several shots, striking 22 year old Michael Ortiz Corpeno and a couple of cars down the street.

GIPD also says Alvarez Jr. was driven to and from the scene by 21 year old Jose Contreras Estrada, as well as helping Alvarez Jr. hide the weapon.

The two Grand Island men were arrested. Juan Alvarez Jr. was charged with 1st Degree Assault, Use of a Firearm to Commit a Felony and Criminal Mischief, and Jose Contreras Estrada was charged with Accessory to a Felony.
