Hastings College carrying momentum of winning season into spring
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - For the first time since the 2009-10 season, Hastings College football won at least seven games this past year. Entering spring ball, the roster looks much different.
The Broncos lost 26 seniors, including a handful of impact starters. Still, head coach Matt Franzen said he is confident in the foundation that has been built.
“Culture never graduates,” he said. “The culture is going to carry over from one class to the next and if we do it right, the seniors are going to pass it on to the next group coming. And I think we’re there where that’s starting to happen now. They learned how to win last season, how to win close games. And that’s not going to go away.”
Senior running back and Sutton native Brett Simonsen echoed what he thinks will lead the Broncos on the same path as last year.
“That was the closest team I’ve ever been a part of,” he said. “It’ll just bring new challenges for the future. I have no doubt in my mind that -- we set a standard last year and now we know what we expect out of ourselves.”
