Recreational safety tips

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - With warm weather season right around the corner, you are probably thinking about that first camping and fishing trip at the lake. However, with warmer temperatures comes the threat for severe weather. Here are some tips to help keep you safe for your next recreational outing.
Your trip to your favorite campground should be exciting. But unexpected weather can create havoc for your adventure. In order to stay safe you will want to plan ahead by first checking the forecast for the days you will be on your trip. Also notify family and friends of where you will be in case of an emergency. And create an evacuation plan. Print out a map of the place you will be staying at and identify safe shelter nearby where you can take cover if a thunderstorm happens to rain on your parade.
The planning is over and you have arrived at your destination. You’ll want to identify potential hazards. Is my camper or tent under a tree? What if thunderstorm winds approach? Will I be on the water? Are there wind or beach hazards I should be aware of? Does my site have limited access? These are great questions to ask yourself and address once you have arrived.
And then comes the end of your trip as you venture back home. You had a great time and want to tell other. Go ahead and share your photos and reviews with others in the recreational community. This will help others to be safe on their next trip. And while you’re at it, go ahead and plan your next trip as well. There’s nothing wrong with planning ahead.
