Temps take a dive but the winds stay strong

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Showers and thunderstorms could develop to the northwest of the Tri-Cities this evening in advance of cold front moving into the region. There is a marginal risk that a few of the storms could become strong to severe with the main threats being hail and wind gusts to 60 mph.

The storms will track northeast along a warm front positioned just north of the Tri-Cities with the storm threat diminishing by 11 pm. South winds will be be gusty tonight, from 35 to 45 mph.

Friday, colder air will push into the region with temperatures falling in the afternoon.

Winds will ramp up even higher, pushing gusts into the 45 to 55 mph. There may be somewhere in the eastern Local 4 area that could see gusts approaching 60 mph. Friday afternoon into the early evening hours, a few showers could clip the Tri-Cities area. In Northern and Central areas there could be some snow with the heaviest accumulations in those counties along the South Dakota border where a Winter Weather Advisory will go into effect.

The weather will calm down over the weekend, though winds could be gusty in the 35 to 45 mph range Saturday night. Sunday will warm into the 70s.
