In the Kitchen With Joe: ‘RW’s Dining and Drinks’
DAVENPORT, Neb. (KSNB) - When it comes to food, there’s nothing better than a homecooked meal that makes you feel like you’re back at your mom’s table.
At “RW’s” in Davenport, that’s the vibe they strive to put out every day, cooking every meal fresh in their kitchen.
“If they come during the day they can enjoy the buffet,” said Curtis Elting, a co-owner of the restaurant. “We always have the pan-fried chicken on Tuesdays, every week, and then on Thursdays of every week we have our homemade chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy. The other three days of the week it rotates from different things, from meatloaf to ham balls, we do hamburger steaks, country style ribs, all kinds of things.”
Curtis and Susie Elting started “RW’s” about 6 years ago, after Curtis suffered an accident while farming.
The name “RW’s” comes from Susie’s dad, whose name is Robert William, and is also an homage to their son Remington who was shot and killed 5 years ago.
Besides making delicious food isn’t the only thing the Eltings enjoy about owning the restaurant.
“I’ve really enjoyed meeting people. With my ag background I can relate to the farmers and what’s going on with the weather conditions. We offer a service of delivering meals planting and the fall harvest because we know what kind of time crunch they’re under,” explained Curtis.
“Our town doesn’t have a grocery store, doesn’t have a lot of things, so when people have free time they’re traveling to other locations to get what they need,” Susie added on. “A lot of other people travel to Davenport. We have a very rounded amount of people that come from a distance every day.”
