PAPILLION, Neb. (KSNB) - For the first time in program history, the co-op of Central City, Fullerton and Centura won a first round game at the state baseball tournament. That 7-1 victory against Wayne earned them a winners bracket showdown Monday against seven-seed Omaha Roncalli.

While the Kernels entered as the favored three-seed, it was Roncalli jumping out to the early lead.

Cam Rohlfsen got the Crimson Pride on the board with an RBI double that plated Clay Shafer. However, the Kernels responded in the bottom half of the first. Kellen Fries singled through the right side before being driven in by Bosten Caspersen to tie things up at 1.

Roncalli ended up with a four-run inning later in the game, and the Kernels couldn’t muster the full comeback, eventually falling 10-4. They’ll play Wayne in a rematch Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
