Kearney Catholic’s Onnen vaults to first in latest edition of Top 5 Plays

KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - This week’s edition of Top 5 Plays features highlights from state baseball and state track & field. Kearney Catholic vaults the top spot.

  1. Kearney Catholic freshman Alyssa Onnen cleared 12-4 in the Class C girls pole vault at state track & field to claim the All-Class gold medal.
  2. Sutton’s Nathan Baldwin set a new Class C state meet record in the boys discuss toss at the state track & field championships to win the gold medal. He is the All-Class silver medalist with the 183-10 throw.
  3. Boone Central’s Jackson Roberts defended his Class B boys 300-meter hurdles state title by .01 seconds with an official time of 37.69 seconds at the state track & field championships. Roberts is the All-Class gold medalist with the time.
  4. Gothenburg’s Madison Smith won the Class B girls discus toss state title with a throw of 145-02 at the state track & field championships. That result also earned her the All-Class gold medal.
  5. Grand Island baseball’s Sam Dinkelman drives home Brayden Lee for a RBI in the team’s first Class A state semifinal game against Millard West. The Islanders forced a second game in a 7-5 win, but ended the season 15-11 overall and a state semifinalist.
