Hastings approves purchase agreement for new landfill compactor
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Hastings City Council unanimously approved the purchase agreement for a new compactor for the Hastings landfill.
The agreement is with the Nebraska Machinery Company out of Doniphan to buy a compactor in the amount of $795,000 with trade.
Environmental Director Marty Stange told council that this piece of equipment is necessary for reliable operation, saying it’s one of two that are constantly working.
Stange said some landfills maintain a spare compactor to allow for maintenance and repair of the primary one, but that’s not the case for Hastings.
He added that landfill staff have been proactive to make sure they keep equipment fairly new so that it’s reliable.
With the agreement, the city will purchase a CAT Model 826K landfill compactor and trade in their current compactor once the piece is ready.
The city will include the price of this equipment in its 2023-24 budget. The compactor will be paid once delivered.
