HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Memorial Day weekend is the official kick off of summer. Plans for outdoor parties, trips to the lake and camping. So, here are a few weekend forecasts for a few of the most popular campgrounds in the state. Let’s head out west on Interstate 80 to Ogallala and head a little north on state highway 61 to Lake McConaughy where you can expect a good chance of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms each day. Breezy conditions as well with high temperatures each day in the 70′s. Our next stop takes us north on highway 83 up to Valentine and east on state highway 12 to Smith Falls State Park. Here you can expect about a 40% chance of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms with windy conditions for the first half of the weekend. High temperatures in the mid 70s to start the weekend and 80s to close it out. If you are looking for drier and warmer weather, your best bet is to head further east. This is where our next stop is, just off the interstate between Lincoln and Omaha is Eugene T. Mahoney state park. If your plans have you landing here this holiday weekend, you can expect lots of sunshine, breezy days and highs in the 80s. Let’s travel west on I-80 one last time to our final destination located just south of Lexington on highway 283. This brings us to Johnson Lake State Park where you expect a chance of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms each day with highs in the mid 70s.
