Two-vehicle crash in Hastings at 3rd and Burlington
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Hastings Police responded to a two-vehicle crash at a busy intersection Thursday afternoon.
First responders were called out to the crash around 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of 3rd Street and Burlington Avenue.
HPD Sergeant Nathan Hanson told Local4 that a Chevy pickup was heading south on Burlington Avenue and collided with a GMC Acadia going westbound on 3rd Street.
Sgt. Hanson said preliminary investigation shows that the pickup ran the red light, hitting the SUV.
The driver of the Acadia and a passenger in the truck suffered minor injuries and were checked out on scene. Both vehicles had to be towed away.
The pickup truck driver was issued a citation for stoplight violation.
When asked what people could do to best avoid situations like this one, Sgt. Hanson said people should pay attention to traffic lights, as well as pedestrians, people riding bicycles. He said just having situation awareness is best to avoid collisions.
This is the same intersection on Wednesday where a SUV and bicyclist collided. There were only minor injuries in that incident as well.
