Sodbusters plate two in season-opening series sweep to Moo
HASTINGS, Neb. (Press Release) - The Hastings Sodbusters watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 9-2 loss to Fremont Moo on Thursday.
Fremont scored on a triple by Christian Hobbs in the first inning, a sacrifice fly by Hadyn Crawford in the first inning, a groundout by Josh Blount in the second inning, a double by Ben Swails in the second inning, and a single by Hobbs in the second inning.
The Sodbusters struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Fremont Moo iLB, giving up nine runs.
Fremont got things moving in the first inning, when Hobbs tripled on a 3-1 count, scoring two runs. They scored three runs in the second inning. The offensive firepower was led by Blount, Swails, and Hobbs, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
Logan Anderson took the win for the Moo. Anderson allowed two hits and one run over six innings, striking out four. Ben Brown threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Fred Juden took the loss for the Sodbusters. The pitcher allowed one hit and four runs over one inning, striking out one.
Nick Jones led Hastings with two hits in three at bats and the team was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Jones made the most plays with 11.
Hobbs went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Fremont in hits and they didn’t commit a single error in the field. Sammy Contacos had 11 chances in the field, the most on the team. Fremont stole four bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Hunter Palmer led the way with two.
