HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - What’s better on an early summer day than a little ice cream?

The Morrison Cancer Center is kicking off June with a Cancer Survivor’s Ice Cream Social. The event takes place in the Perkins-Spady Recuperative Gardens outside of MCC (inside in case of rain) from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, June 1. Survivors were invited to register for themselves and one guest for free ice cream provided by Special Scoops. Members of the public may attend the event and purchase ice cream.

David Jones, Morrison Cancer Center Director, said the event is just one of several places people will see MCC representatives in the community this summer.

“We want to recognize our patients for all they have been through,” Jones said. “Plus, we want to thank area residents for all they do to support MCC and our patients.”

A second June event, a Cancer Walk with Butterfly Release, sponsored by the Mary Lanning Healthcare Foundation, will benefit MCC and its programs. The walk begins at 5:30 p.m. on June 22 at the Hastings College Lynn Farrell Arena parking lot. The fee is $25 per walker or free for cancer survivors.

Participants who register by June 1 will be guaranteed a butterfly and t-shirt. Register online here.
