Storm chances return tonight as this unsettle pattern continues
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Western Nebraska will be under the gun tonight as storms move off the High Plains into the Panhandle and Sandhills. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until midnight for damaging winds up to 80 mph and large hail. Imperial, McCook, Trenton and Benkelman are among the towns in the Local 4 forecast area included in watch.
Storms will push east through the evening, but like last night, the loss of daytime heating should allow storms to weaken before they move into the Tri-Cities area after 11 pm. However there is still a chance that one or two storms could maintain their severity.
Wednesday will be a hit and miss day for storms as temperatures will again warm into the upper 80s and lower 90s. Late week into the weekend, there may be an increase in thunderstorm coverage allowing for more widespread measurable rainfall Thursday through Saturday. Multiple disturbances will rotate into the Plains from an upper level low over the Southern California coast. While the period may see better coverage of precipitation, it will not be a wash out. Temperatures Friday and Saturday will cool into the upper 70s to low to mid 80s and then warm back into the upper 80s early next week.
