KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - The University of Nebraska-Kearney held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new wrestling room Thursday at the Health and Sports Center. The Ron & Pam Blessing Wrestling Facility was unveiled to the public for the first time.

The program moved into, and used, the space during the winter season. Head coach Dalton Jensen said they wanted to get it finished with graphics and special finishing touches before welcoming in the public. As for the members of the team, he said they’re thrilled by the new setup.

“Those guys were ecstatic to get out of the old wrestling room in the dungeon and to come up here and have more space, bright lights, natural light,” Jensen said. “It doesn’t happen without people that care about our program and want to give back and those guys who have set the foundation before us.”

Ron and Pam Blessing were the top donors to make this project happen. Pam got to cut the ribbon herself, while representing her husband who has since passed away.

“This is a very special day just because it’s the first opportunity that we’ve had to allow our fans to come in and enjoy what all this hard work has gone toward,” UNK Director of Athletics Marc Bauer said. “If there was ever an opportunity that we could help invest in a facility that’s going to help provide the resources that our student-athletes need to succeed, this was that opportunity and we took full advantage of it.”
