GICC hires elementary school principal
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Sarah Nordhues has been hired as Grand Island Central Catholic’s Elementary School principal. The school is set to open for the 2024-25 school year.
“We are excited to welcome Mrs. Sarah Nordhues as the first leader of GICC Elementary,” Jordan Engle, GICC Middle School / High School Principal said. “Sarah brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with her, and I look forward to watching our elementary school thrive under her guidance.”
Nordhues is beginning her 10th year with Riverside Elementary School in Spalding, NE, where she began her principalship in 2014. Prior to that, Nordhues was on the teaching staffs at Palmer Public Schools, and both Florence Elementary and Belle Ryan Elementary in Omaha, since 2006.
After earning her Bachelor of Science in Education K-8 with an endorsement in Intermediate grades 4-8, Nordhues pursued a Masters in Education Administration and Supervision K-8 from the University of Nebraska Omaha, followed by her 7-12 certification from the University of Nebraska Kearney (UNK) in 2014.
She is currently working toward her specialist certificate from UNK, as well.
“Grand Island Central Catholic Elementary is an exciting new offering for the area,” Nordhues commented. “I am intrigued by the opportunity and challenges of getting to reconstruct the success of the 7-12 grade levels by expanding the faith-based education to the elementary.”
With GICC’s Elementary School not opening until August 2024, Nordhues will continue to serve at Riverside Public Schools while also lending her expertise to assist in curriculum and hiring decisions.
“We look forward to relying on Sarah’s skills and experience as we make important decisions in the year leading up to the opening of GICC’s Elementary,” Engle added.
Letters of application for the elementary teaching positions, and credentials, can be sent to Engle at jengle@gicc.org.
As for the building itself, construction is progressing as scheduled, with the exterior walls being completed. Additionally, GICC’s cafeteria renovation is moving along at the scheduled pace, as well.
Families interested in the GICC Elementary School for the 2024-2025 school year are asked to join the waitlist, which currently has 275 names on it. Central Catholic will then invite families to an open house event during this 2023-2024 school year to learn more about its new elementary school and the application process.
