Chance of sprinkles this morning with cool unseasonable temperatures this afternoon
July 5, 2023 - Morning forecast
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The cold front that sparked a line of severe storms late yesterday afternoon and evening has exited the region leaving mostly cloudy skies and a few showers in its wake. The chance for some light showers will continue through about noon time. With a much cooler airmass now in place and lots of clouds lingering in the wake of the cold front, we can expect a relatively cool afternoon for early July, with highs in the lower 70s across most of the area.
For tonight, most of us will remain dry with the exception being areas in north central Kansas where there is a chance of showers and storms associated with a disturbance that will move through the region overnight. While significant severe weather is not anticipated, we could see a strong to marginally severe storm across north central Kansas. Beyond tonight, there are additional chances for potentially strong to severe storms are possible both Thursday and Friday, with the latest Storm Predication Center outlooks having southwest areas in a Slight Risk for Thursday evening, and a marginal risk for severe weather across the entire area Friday. This will be associated with a couple more disturbances moving through the region on westerly flow aloft.
Cooler than average temperatures for July will continue through the rest of the week. Looking into next week, summer temperatures return ahead of another cold front that looks to move through mid week next week.
