Wood River hosts 141st Fun Festival
WOOD RIVER, Neb. (KSNB) - Saturday was the second day of Fun Fest in Wood River. Each year, the event takes place during the first weekend in August. It started with a parade through downtown.
There are activities for kids such as face painting and bounce houses. Other activities include yard games, co-ed softball, cornhole and a volleyball tournament.
Organizer Lindsay Davis said this year event shows people what Wood River has to offer.
“We’re a growing community,” said Davis. “We have a lot of fun things happening in town. We recently opened a daycare and preschool. We’re working on Legacy Station, which will be the first multi-generational community center in the state of Nebraska.”
Davis said they like to get people out to celebrate all the recent additions Wood River is making, but this weekend is all about having a good time.
“We really just want Wood River communities to come out and have fun all together to celebrate as a community,” said Abby Rennau, Organizer. “We have events for literally every age group and we hope everybody comes out and takes advantage of those.”
This year’s theme was summer luau. Rennau and Davis said they let residence vote for this year’s theme, and 13-year-old Jillie Buechler said the theme gives Wood River a beachy vibe.
