HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - After a dry and warm day today, things get a bit cooler and unsettled to finish out the weekend. It will start with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms returning to the area overnight. The better chance will be across North Central and Northeast Nebraska after midnight. A few storms could be strong to severe as a low along with a cold front slides southeast out of southwest South Dakota. The primary threats with storms that become severe overnight will be large hail to quarter size and damaging wind gust to around 60 mph. Storms that develop in north central Nebraska will slide to the southeast affecting areas from the Tri-Cities eastward tomorrow morning. Lows tonight across the area will be mostly in the 60s.

A strong cold front will push through the area tomorrow morning and through the afternoon. With the front coming through, some may see falling temperatures during the afternoon. Currently, the high temperature forecast ranges from the lower 70s northwest to the upper 80s southeast. Winds will become rather breezy out of the north northwest behind the cold front with wind gusts to around 30 mph. Showers and thunderstorms will pass through the area with the chances being greater over Eastern Nebraska. Some severe storms may also be possible there. The greatest threat will be from Hebron up to Omaha and areas east. With the daytime instability in place, the primary threats look to be large hail up to 3 inches in diameter, damaging wind gusts to 70 mph and one or two tornadoes. The timeframe for tomorrow’s severe weather should occur between 2PM and 10 PM tomorrow afternoon and evening.

Monday will be another day with below average high temperatures with highs in the mid to upper 70s and lower 80s. Temperatures will be warming back up Tuesday into Wednesday. Mostly dry weather is expected until late Wednesday when another cold front brings a slight chance of thunderstorms and another brief cool-down. Temperatures are expected to heat back up next weekend with more widespread 90s and even some triple digits moving back into the area.
