GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Grand Island Public Schools began their school year and Newell Elementary was able to show off its new security features that were put in over the summer.

“Our buildings and grounds team and our custodial staff has been working amazingly hard all summer putting in new safety features,” said Nate Balcom, principal of Newell Elementary. “At Newell this year we have a new vestibule installed and ready to go and we have badge access on some of our doors, so we’re really excited for that.”

The vestibule allows the office to buzz in visitors and vet them before doing so, and the badge access keeps strangers and unwanted guests out while allowing teachers to enter and exit.
