HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - This morning we said good-bye to the pleasantly warm temperature as the heat built in this afternoon.

This evening will be very warm as temperatures will hang in the 80s across much of the area. A light shower is possible along the Colorado border this evening otherwise just a few clouds will push east across the area later tonight. Low temperatures tonight will be mild in the upper 60s and low to mid 70s.

From a simmer to a boil as the heat takes over the area tomorrow and some higher dew points will move in. High temperatures tomorrow will soar in to the upper 90s and low to mid 100s. Some heat index values could exceed 110°. Especially for areas east of highway 183. Tomorrow night through early Sunday morning, some showers and thunderstorms will be possible in Western Nebraska. They will move northeast and may clip our North Central Nebraska counties. Meanwhile, something very isolated late tomorrow afternoon into early tomorrow evening is possible farther south, but is not likely. Overnight Saturday, a cold front will dive south and stall out just to the south of us. It’ll be a bit cooler up north, but remain very hot in the south. Highs will range from mid 80s up north to the low 100s in the south.

The heat will be sticking around through a good part of next week. Monday may be the hottest day we see during this heat wave. Highs will mostly be in the 100s. Expect more of the same Tuesday and Wednesday. Lows will mostly be in the 70s. Thursday is the first sign of cooler air as it slowly begins to push southward with an approaching cold front. Highs look to still range from the lower 90s northwest to the lower 100s south and southeast. Along with the cooler temperatures going into the end of the week, rain and thunderstorm chances return to the forecast. By next weekend, highs will be back down into the 80s.
